Does Billy Long have an 'enemies list'?

Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott says Billy Long's staffers gave authorities Bowler's name.

Like Bowler, I too have been critical of Long both during the campaign and after his election.

Does that make me, as Sheriff Arnott says, "worrisome to Long"?

Long has blocked me from following him on his twitter account Auctnr1.

Last September, then candidate Long and I had this exchange at a local trucking company:

BL: Where’s your bus?

JL: My bus is parked, I always park my bus.

BL: I want to see your bus, it’s, I wanted you to bring your bus.

MM: Well, I’m glad we came out here, I wanted you to hear

JL: I, uh.

BL: Well, thank you, I didn’t know this would be a public deal, we, we’re just touring and visiting with small business guy

MM: We don’t get to ask questions

JL: Well, that’s just

MM: The regular people don’t have much access to ask our questions. As you can see, we’re not here to attack.

BL: No. (overtalk about taking photos between group)

JL: You’re a public figure, we’re gonna make fun of you, no, not make fun of you, we’re gonna take, we’re gonna jab you. I mean, that’ part of the business.

BL: I know, Jim.

Harry S Truman said a lot of things, but it might behoove Long to heed this advice.

A frequent bus rider suggested I do a google search using the words "Billy Long FBI."

I did and I recommend you do too.

Greene County Sheriff Jim “Arnott confirmed to KSPR News that Bowler isn’t the only local person who’s been scrutinized in the wake of last weekend’s shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Gifford (D-AZ) during a meet-and-greet with constituents in Tucson, Ariz,” states the report, affirming that the authorities are compiling new lists of Americans who are now considered to be potentially violent threats for the crime of asking their own public servants uncomfortable questions. Separately it was reported that the FBI was preparing to visit other bloggers in the area.

Targeting anyone who exercises their First Amendment right to redress their grievances against local representatives who are paid to serve them with home visits accompanied by FBI agents only has one outcome – it chills free speech and discourages other Americans from speaking out against the government. These tactics also have the impact of making asking questions of elected officials, the lifeblood of a free society, seem somehow abnormal or suspicious.

Once again, vultures are still busy circling around last weekend’s tragedy, using it as a vehicle through which to advance their own authoritarian and anti-American agendas of political repression.

Dissent is the highest form of patriotism, and any move to imply that asking questions of public officials or engaging in criticism of government is somehow suspicious or indicative of a violent individual is a damning indictment of everything America is supposed to stand for. Circumstances like these should only encourage Americans to become more vocal in their dissent while they still have any semblance of free speech left at all.

Long on mental health; Eckersley on election fraud; Local blogger on FBI visit; Tie your shoe, Billy Long

Congressman Billy Long (R MO7), in an interview with Jennifer Moore of KSMU radio here in Springfield, MO, weighed in with his opinions on the Giffords shooting.

And so I’ve got every confidence that we’ll, you know, do everything we can to remain safe and also remain accessible to the public. Because that’s what being in Congress is all about. It kind of comes with the territory as far as [taking] some chances you’d probably rather not take, but you’ve got to be accessible to the people and keep doing the work of the people. That’s what I was sworn in to do—to uphold the Constitution—last Wednesday, and that’s what I plan to do.

Long also said that "And no one’s even thinking about the deceased, or the ones that are laying injured in the hospital. So to me, all this talk about whose fault it is and what is rhetoric getting to, you know, to me, it’s a lot of window-dressing for personal gain.
And that’s not the time for personal gain on the left or the right.”

Moore reminded Long that her network has had extensive and in-depth features on them and their legacies and suggested to him would he not think "that it’s also important to look at the various factors that may have caused this?”

Long's long reply sort of responded to her comment:

“Well, I think we need to go to the mental health officials there. The mental illness is what needs to be looked at in this country, because the young man was obviously deranged. I mean, you know there’s always an insanity defense. Well, it doesn’t take a Ph.D. from MIT to figure out someone who would do anything even close to this horrific, you know, is mentally insane, is deranged. So, I mean, who knows why someone, you know, is that way.

"So this talk of, you know, who caused it, or…and now, they’re all trying to out-clip each other, to out-sound byte each other, going back [and forth] saying, ‘Well you said this seven years ago about Republicans,’ [and] ‘Well, you said this seven months ago about Democrats.’ I mean, to me, it’s repulsive that they’re even having that discussion.”

In other news, KSMU reports that Scott Eckersley, whom Long defeated in the November election, has issued a statement that the FBI office in Springfield contacted him this week and confirmed that the Department of Justice has opened an investigation into his complaint against Long for election fraud.

Moore reports that "Eckersley filed a complaint after a fake email was sent to local media in his name just days before the election, falsely claiming that he had dropped out of the race."

Moore also reports that

The US Attorney’s offices in both Springfield and Kansas City would not comment on the matter. The spokesperson for the Kansas City office said the US Attorney’s office does not comment on any internal investigations unless charges are actually filed.

Also, the supervisor of the local FBI office, Josh Nixon, told KSMU that, as per the Department of Justice’s policy, he could neither confirm nor deny that there was even an investigation open.

Congressman Long issued the following written statement:

“I am not aware of an investigation from the Department of Justice. Anyone can file a FEC claim and I have complied with all requests by the FEC for a response. Given the nature of this claim we expect a positive outcome in the coming months,”

Meanwhile, stories are flowing out a local blogger's report of a visit by an FBI agent and the Greene County Sheriff. The blogger, who lives in Christian county, said he was surprised to see a Greene County Sheriff's car outside his home. The law enforcement officials indicated to the blogger that "Long's office had been in touch" concerning anti-Long blog posting originating from this area.

After a brief interview relating how the blogger approached Long at his vehicle on at least two occasions, and the viewing of videos made by the blogger of the encounters with Long, the agent and sheriff left but not before they told the blogger that other bloggers can expect a visit from them.

During the campaign Long repeatedly said he wasn't going to run to a camera or microphone whenever one is put in front of his face.

Long and a constituent had the following exchange about his meeting Condoleeza Rice at Harvard at a Fair Tax Meeting here in Springfield that the SNL's Roseann Moring chronicled in her blog for the News-Leader:

"He also spoke about his preparation for Washington. He attended a seminar at Harvard University where he spoke former officials such as Condoleezza Rice and the architect of No Child Left Behind.

“Did you shoot her?” asked an attendee about the NCLB architect.

“She wanted to shoot me,” he said.

About his freshman class, he said: “We’re very aware of the tea party. We know that’s why most of us got elected.”

Steve Helms Reports Sharron Angle's Campaign Manager to Speak to Missouri Republican Assembly

Steve Helms is a busy man. In addition to being the Greene County Circuit Clerk, is also the publisher, editor, main reporter, typesetter, layout/graphic design, advertising director, and chief cook and bottlewasher of the Springfield Gazette, published this in the latest edition:

The Missouri Republican Assembly (MRA), a member of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies, is a grassroots organization dedicated to uniting conservatives, promoting conservatism in the tradition of the Founding Fathers, electing conservative Republicans and to watchdog elected officials and insure their adherence to conservative principles.

Doesn't the guy have a name?

Do a Google search for "Sharron Angle's campaign manager Terry Campbell" (as I write this, the tv is speaking of a poll that indicates 66% of republicans in Nevada think Angle was too crazy to be elected).

Here is just a snippling of the comments about this guy (he's from Springfield):

1. From Politico:

The Tea Party nominated Republican Sharon Angle to run against Senate Leader Harry Reid in Nevada. Instead of hiring a professional campaign manager and team to run her campaign in the general election, she stuck with her old friend, Terry Campbell. Like Angle and too many Tea Party candidates in 2010, Campbell proved to be out of his league and ran a dysfunctional campaign, reports Shira Toeplitz in Angle's campaign sank candidate.

“If they were filming a sequel to the movie ‘Dumb and Dumber,’ Terry Campbell would have a feature role," Chris LaCivita, political director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee during the campaign told Politico. "In the 20 years that I’ve been involved politially, I’ve never had the misfortune of working with such sheer, utter incompetence."

2. From Nuclear Town Hall

Campbell, who had been with Angle for more than a decade, ran a two-man operation out of his living room in Columbia, Missouri, visiting Nevada only irregularly. He elected to have knee surgery shortly after Angle won the nomination, leaving the campaign in limbo just as Reid began a full-court press labeling the Tea Party novice as an "extremist."

In one incident that seems to typify the conflict, Campbell allegedly initiated a behind-the-scenes campaign to cancel a visit from 2008 Presidential candidate John McCain even as McCain was in the air on his way to Nevada. Only at the last minute did Angle consent to have McCain campaign on her behalf. In another flumox, Campbell allegedly called national Republican headquarters for help in deflecting a campaign visit from President Obama two days after the President had already made the appearance.

3.From the Examiner.com:

Terry Campbell, a former state legislator who had worked with Angle on campaigns in the past, helped her secure the Republican nomination in 2010. But according to Politico, the big-time GOP operatives that moved in for her battle with Democratic candidate Harry Reid say Campbell had little command of day-to-day operations and pushed bizarre tactics.

Republican campaigners assisting with the campaign said Campbell aligned himself with the Tea Party activists staffing the Las Vegas campaign office, an outpost so idiosyncratic that some campaign personnel referred to it, rather poetically, as the "Island of Misfit Toys." Angle and Campbell saw eye to eye on ideology, however, which may have accounted for her persistent faith in him, despite his apparent shortcomings.

4. Nevada News and Views:

Campbell was further described as “consistently unaware” of the daily goings-on in the campaign, “including the cash-on-hand situation and which advertisements were on the air.” Staffers on the campaign report that Campbell’s voice-mail boxes were always full and he wouldn’t answer emails for days. Not good in this age of 24/7 campaigning.

To give you a further idea of just how clueless and incompetent this guy was, the story notes that Campbell called the NRSC in July “to inquire if it had heard anything about the president coming to the state and attacking Angle – two days after President Barack Obama visited Nevada to campaign for Reid.”

Not very flattering, no wonder Helms doesn't mention the guy's name.
